Every physician and surgeon must immediately report in writing to the local health officer the name, date of birth, and address of every patient of 14 years or older diagnosed with a disorder characterized by lapses of consciousness. If the physician and surgeon reasonably believe that the reporting of a patient will serve the public interest, she may report a patient's condition even if it may not be required under the DMV's definition of disorders characterized by lapses of consciousness.
The local health officer must report in writing to the Department of Motor Vehicles the name, age, and address of every person reported to it as a case of a disorder characterized by lapses of consciousness.
The Department of Motor Vehicles may cancel the certificate or endorsement of any driver for certain specified vehicles (e.g. farm vehicles, school buses, etc) who fails to meet any of the requirements for issuance or retention of the certificate or endorsement, including, submission of an acceptable medical report.
An applicant for a restricted driver’s license issued for the operation of firefighting equipment shall, upon application and every two years thereafter, submit medical information on a form approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The physician and surgeon reports (of every patient 14 years or older diagnosed with a disorder characterized by lapses of consciousness) shall be for the informational purposes of the Department of Motor Vehicles enforcement of the Vehicle Code, and shall be kept confidential and used solely for the purpose of determining the eligibility of any person to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of this state.
